Reflections should be on your short list of images to make every time you go shooting. These are the steps for making a reflection picture like the one above.
Step 1: Frame Your Mind
Firstly, you’ve got to have photography on your mind, you’ve got to be looking for a picture. I was wandering around at the Newark International airport waiting for my flight when I noticed a woman wearing hot red high heels. I thought to myself, Those shoes would make an interesting subject…. That got me thinking about what picture I could make, and what picture I could convince the woman wearing the shoes to make. While I was stewing on the picture, I planted a seed when I said, “Wow, those are great looking’ shoes,” and she said, “Thanks!”

ADHD and Generic Medications
I have heard conflicting information about generic medications in comparison with brands overall.
I once had a pharmacist argue with me that my generic was EXACTLY the same as the brand I was taking, it had to be all in my head if I felt different. I’m not a big fan of generics, however the price is right.
Although this article address specifically ADD and ADHD – I think it will be helpful to anyone who has ever wondered about the effectiveness of generic meds.
World Sickle Cell Day: Together We Are Stronger!
World Sickle Cell Awareness Day is June 19th, this annual event commemorates the date in 2008 when the General Assembly of the United Nations adopted a resolution recognizing sickle-cell disease (SCD) as a public health concern. World Sickle Cell Awareness Day provides an opportunity to increase understanding of SCD and how the disease affects individuals and families worldwide.
Sickle Cell Disease is one of the most common inherited blood disorder affecting 70,000 to 80,000 Americans and millions of people world-wide. Due to the severity of health complications associated with Sickle Cell Disease there is a need for increased knowledge and awareness about the disease.
SCD is most common among people whose ancestors come from Africa; Mediterranean countries such as Greece, Turkey, and Italy; the Arabian Peninsula; India; and Spanish-speaking regions in South America, Central America, and parts of the Caribbean.
The World Health Organization (WHO) has estimated that SCD contributes to 5% of the deaths of children younger than 5 years of age in some African countries. While an increasing proportion of affected children now survive past 5 years of age, many remain at risk of premature death. With early detection and use of public health interventions such as penicillin, many of these deaths can be prevented. Additionally, the burden of this disease can be reduced with increased global resources and effective partnerships. Help educate and unite in the awareness of SCD. Check for programs and activities in your community.

Mara graduated from Parsons School of Design in New York City and studied at Central Saint Martins College of Arts and Design in London. She launched her first ready-to-wear collection in 2000, she got her first big break when Sex and the City stylist Patricia Field stopped her on the street to complement her outfit. Field was so taken by her work she decided to sell them in her shop, House of Field.

Call From the DEA and Consumer Warning
Last week I was shocked to receive a phone message from a DEA agent demanding I return his call because my name had come up several times in the investigation of illegal pharmaceutical drugs being smuggled into the U.S.
Huh?
My heart raced and my first thought was to call and get this mistake straighten out right away. . . Then I remembered hearing about consumer scams in which fake federal agents try to scare consumers to return phone calls, so I decided to first have a chat with Fairfax County Consumer Affairs Investigator Vee Johnson to get the scoop and I’m glad I did.
Me: “Vee, You heard the phone message I received from a man pretending to be a DEA agent. How common is this kind of scam in which the caller knows your name?”
Vee Johnson: “With our personal information everywhere, it’s easy for everyone to know our name. Scams are perennial. Scammers know that when they say our name, we will listen, and the longer we listen, the more they scheme to draw us into their web of deception. Scammers come at you gently with flattery to gain your trust or rough and tough like your caller who used scare tactics to get your attention. If you get a call like this, hang up and report it to the DEA<https://www.deadiversion.usdoj.gov/esor/spring/main?execution=e2s1>. It is a violation of federal law to impersonate a federal agent.”
Me: “What happens if a person calls back a phone number?”
Vee Johnson: “If you call back a number you don’t recognize, you risk being charged for an international call plus minutes. This can quickly add up to $20+. When you call back, it encourages the scammer and they will keep on calling. It’s okay to be curious, but not when strange numbers and voices are involved.”
Me: “What is an example of another type of phone scam people receive this time of year using a scare tactic to trick people into calling back?”
Vee Johnson: “Scammers impersonating the IRS are calling in full force. They know that taxes are on everyone’s mind so they threaten and demand that you send money using a pre-paid debit card, credit card, or wire transfer. Don’t be intimidated. The IRS won’t initiate communication with you or me by phone. If there is something we need to know, the IRS will contact us by mail. If you receive a call, hang up and report it to the IRS<http://www.irs.gov/uac/Tax-Fraud-Alerts>.”
Me: “What should people do if they receive this type of phone call?”
Vee Johnson: “If you receive a call from a number you don’t recognize, or a voice that doesn’t belong to a family member, friend or colleague, hang up. Don’t let your curiosity cost you $$$$$. No one can protect our personal, financial, and confidential information better than you. You best defense is a hang up!”

Most Popular Crime TV Series
Most of the time I work with the TV on. My computer is in front of the TV – so I glace between two monitors for several hours at a time during the day (I know this is probably wonderful for my eye-site) Anyway, I really like crime shows. . . I’ll watch a rerun of Law and Order anytime!
